About the 2002 Dutch
Candidate Study
The Dutch
candidate survey is part of an ongoing cross national study of political
candidates and is modeled after other candidate surveys conducted in New Zealand, Germany,
and Australia.
Following
the May 2002 election, we sent postal surveys to all candidates representing
each of the ten parties achieving parliamentary representation. The overall
response rate was 58 percent. The 16 page Dutch/English questionnaire included
questions arranged under the following sub-headings: Political Background and
Activity; Candidate Selection and Campaigning; Opinions and Policies:
Government and the Electoral System; Background Information; and The Role of an
MP.
This
project was funded by a grant from the Amsterdam School of Communications
Research (ASCoR).
